EB Ballot #15-22 – To change the USCA Club and Judges requirements to allow the same judge to be used multiple times in a calendar year at a USCA Club as long as a trial with a different judge has been held in between

Motion by Nathanial Roque, DOJ, and seconded by Laura Bollschweiler, SW RD, to change the USCA Club and Judges requirements to allow the same judge to be used multiple times in a calendar year at a USCA Club as long as a trial with a different judge has been held in between.

The following requirements must be met:

1. Judges are not allowed to judge successive trials at the same club.
2. An authorized and completed USCA Event must be held using a different judge before allowing a judge back to a club in the same calendar year.

Background:  The current rule is “Trial judges are not allowed to judge at the same club more than one time per calendar year and another different judge must have been used by the club before inviting the same judge back.”

1. With the high cost of travel now, the cost to host club trials has more than doubled in many areas. By making this change, it may allow clubs to more frequently use judges that are closer or less expensive in travel costs.
2. The original rule was implemented to ensure that clubs were not using the same judge repeatedly and to help maintain any hint or perception of favoritism by clubs and judges.
3. All trial results are reviewed for inconsistencies and the overall quality of judges and integrity of our USCA Judges is monitored by the Director of Judges and the Judges Committee so any problems will be addressed with the judge or club.
3. Inconsistency in evaluation is reviewed and addressed in general with our judges at the USCA Judges Meeting and in continuing education.
4. In the unlikely event of a problem, all trial authorization and judge approvals must be approved by both the Regional Director and the Director of Judges so there is an oversight in place, and at any time a request may be denied if there is reason to believe or suspect anything regarding the validity of the trial or judge.
