Revise the current “Regional Participation for Entry to the GSD National Championship Motion made by Nia Cottrell at the 2005 GBM

EB Ballot # 18-17

Motion by Nathaniel Roque, seconded by Vadim Plotsker, to revise the current “Regional Participation for Entry to the GSD National Championship Motion made by Nia Cottrell at the 2005 GBM”

From:

Regional participation is not required for entry to the GSD National Championship if the handler/dog team was selected by USA or AWDF for a WUSV or FCI team and participated that year”

To:

“Regional participation is not required for entry into the USCA GSD National Championship if the handler / dog team participated in the USCA-GSDCA WUSV Qualification Trial representing USCA or represented USCA on the WUSV World Team or was selected for the AWDF FCI World Team as a USCA Entry.  Regional Participation is also not required if the handler / dog team entered and participated (starting in at least 1 phase of the event) in the USCA Working Dog Championships (WDC) in lieu of entering a USCA Regional Championship. This will be effective December 1 2017.

Background:

This was the previous change of the requirement passed in 2005.

“As Approved in the 2005 General Board Meeting

Regional Participation for Entry to GSD National Championship Motion by Nia Cottrell to ratify Executive Board decision to change definition of regional participation: From: Regional participation is not required for entry to the GSD National Championship if the handler has participated in or is selected as an FCI or WUSV team member for that year. To: Regional participation is not required for entry to the GSD National Championship if the handler/dog team was selected by USA or AWDF for a WUSV or FCI team and participated that year”

I believe that with the changing times of added expense to travel, difficulty in traveling with a dog as well as the increased burden of our qualifying process adding to too many trials for a dog to qualify and participate in the same year compared to other organizations. Also, this change may help increase our entry into the Working Dog Championship if a handler has to make a choice between the AWDF or the WDC for a spring event but still maintains Regional Championship Entry for any USCA members that want to qualify for the National Championship and do not go to the WDC or make the AWDF Team as a USCA Member
