USA HELPER PROGRAM

USA started its Helper Program in 1999 requiring all Helpers to obtain a USA Helper Book. Effective 2004, the USA Helper Program added the requirement that all Helpers working a USA authorized event have the proper "Helper Classification" obtained by attending a authorized USA Helper Seminar and Evaluation, as outlined in the USA Helper Program, additionally current USA membership in good standing is required.

It is first the responsibility of the Helper to ensure that they meet the requirements to perform helper work at a USA event before accepting the assignment for the event, as well as the responsibility of the Trial Secretary and /or Judge to verify the helpers qualifications to be allowed to work the event

Qualifying to Work National Championships

All Helpers that: (i) are a current Member of USCA in good standing for a period of more than one (1) year; (ii) have attained Regional, National or Teaching Helper Level Classification; and (iii) have not received an Unsatisfactory Rating from a Judge, are eligible for pre-selection for a National Event. Interested Helpers who meet these requirements should send the following, at least three (3) months prior to the Event, to the Helper Program Director/Helper Committee Chairman, Dennis Vander Linde , fullgripga@gmail.com, for review by the Helper Committee.

  • An email stating his/her desire and availability to be considered for pre-selection to perform the helperwork at USCA’s Working Dog Championship, German Shepherd Dog National Championship and/or Qualification Trial for the Selection of the USA (USCA-GSDCA) WUSV Championship Team.
  • An electronic copy of the Helper’s USCA membership card with expiration date. This will be used to verify that the Helper’s USCA membership will be current during the Event he/she desires to be considered for. The Helper Program Director/Committee Chair will contain the USCA office via email to verify that the Helper is in good standing with USCA.
  • An electronic copy of all pages of the Helper’s USCA Trial Helper Record. This will be used to verify that the Helper’s Classification Level of Regional, National or Teaching Helper will be current during the Event he/she desires to be considered for and that the Helper has not received an Unsatisfactory Rating from a Judge.
  • A video link (e.g., youtube, etc.) of the Helper performing the helperwork for the entire IPO3 protection routine. This, in conjunction with the results of the review of the Helper’s Trial Helper Record Book, will be used to assess the Helper’s ability to perform the helperwork in the National event.

After a review of the above submitted information is complete, the Helper Committee will recommend a slate of Helpers for the Event to the Executive Board for approval. Upon approval by the Executive Board, the Helper Committee will contact and confirm the Pre-Selected Helpers for the Event. The aforementioned meets the requirements of Section 16.1 of the USCA Helper Program.
